"Is It Magic or Law?"

If you've seen the movie, "The Secret" you know what a
wonderful depiction of the law of attraction it is. For many
people this movie is their first encounter with the idea
that their thinking is creating their circumstances. But
this movie has attracted a lot of critics, too.
One repeated criticism is that the movie teaches
"magical thinking" by saying that all we have to do
is create a clear vision of what we want, focus on that
vision, and it will magically drop in our lap. And it is
certainly possible to walk away from the movie with
that impression.
But is that the way it works? Did Bob Proctor get from
"sick, broke and miserable" to international success
that way? Did Joe Vitale go from sleeping in his car
to living on his estate in the country by sitting cross
legged and humming a mantra? Did John Assaraf build
ReMax of Indiana by just putting it on his vision board?
Of course not! That would be magic! And when you listen
carefully to what they say in the movie you'll see that's
not what they're claiming. But it's easy to miss it if you're
not paying attention.
There's a reason why we call it the LAW of Attraction.
We build our success by LAW , not by magic, and
visualization is just the first step in the process. It's an
easy mistake to make, though, because we're all looking
for the lazy way to riches and it would be nice if visualization
were all we needed.
In "Science of Getting Rich" Wallace Wattles cautions
us about this when he says that visualization "will bring
riches to you, but you must not rely upon it alone,
paying no attention to personal action. This is the rock
upon which many meet shipwreck - the failure to connect
thought with personal action!"
Now, getting clear about what you want and visualizing it
is a crucial first step. Taking action without this step
will keep you busy and get you tired without much else.
We have to get things in the right order. First, clarity of
purpose and visualization.
Second, expect inspiration, ideas and guidance that will
tell you what action to take. In "The Secret" Jack Canfield
tells of his $100,000 goal he visualized and how in about
4 weeks he got his "$100,000 idea." Napoleon Hill writes
that when we follow this process "the subconscious
mind must hand over to you practical plans for acquiring
the vision you have formed."
The third step is to ACT courageously on the ideas that
you have gotten. Inspired action is essential. It is the only
way that we can actually receive what we have ordered!
Wallace Wattles puts it this way - "Your thought makes
all things work to bring you what you want, but your
personal activity must be such that you can rightly receive
it when it reaches you."
So there it is - the Secret of the ages. Get clear about
what you want, visualize yourself experiencing it with
firm faith and purpose, expect inspiration, and act
confidently and persistently. You can have anything
you truly want with this process.
