"No Short Cuts"
"The poor do not need charity, they need inspiration."
- - Wallace Wattles
A couple of recent news items caught my attention,
because they illustrate an important point for all of
us, no matter what our economic circumstances
are.
In January it was reported that the man who had won
the largest single lottery payout in US history, $113 M
in cash after taxes, was broke and in legal trouble. He
claims that he doesn't know where the money went. It
took him just 4 years to misplace all of it.
This week it was announced that a wealthy businessman
in Hawaii was opening 8 of his 22 mansions to homeless
families. The article profiled the single mother of 5 who was
moving into a $5M mansion in an exclusive section of
Honolulu. She will have to make the utility payments,
although she was unable to pay the rent on her previous
apartment.
Now, I don't want to criticize the good intentions of this
businessman, but he is obviously ignorant of the
reasons why people are poor. People are not poor
because they don't have money, they're poor because
of the way they think. If they get money without changing
their thinking, they will be unable to keep the money, as
the lottery winner so clearly demonstrated.
In "Science of Getting Rich" Wallace Wattles says that the
only way to end poverty (or to change any circumstances) is
to teach people to learn and practice the principles of
success. To give a homeless mother a $5M mansion without
teaching her those principles is doing her a grave disservice.
Here's the lesson for the rest of us - the circumstances in
our lives are ALWAYS an accurate reflection of our
thinking, our feelings and our beliefs. We may not be in
poverty, but wherever we are we cannot significantly change
our circumstances unless we change ourselves first. We
must first BE, before we can HAVE.
Do you have a vision for a significant change in your life?
What kind of person is it that is experiencing that lifestyle?
How do they think, how do they act, where do they live,
what do they do, how do they dress, who do they hang out
with? Does that describe you? If not, do what you have to
do to become that person. If you don't know how, buy some
of the study programs that I sell. They changed my life and
they can change yours.
Whatever you do, don't keep wishing for a better life without
doing something to improve yourself. Don't make the mistake
of just working harder! As the late, great Hoyt Axton sang,
"Work your fingers to the bone, whadda ya get?
"Boney fingers!"
Your thinking got you where you are. You have to change it first.
Then you can take effective action..
To your success,
Wes
