The Power of A Book
If you know anything about my mentor, Bob Proctor,
you know that in 1960 his life was changed by a book,
the classic "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill.
Actually, the book didn't change his life, HE changed
his life by taking the book seriously! Some people
forget that part.
Lesser known is the story of another book, given to
him 10 years later, that also powerfully changed
his life. That second book was a gift from Lloyd
Conant of the Nightingale Conant company, and the
book was "The Science of Getting Rich". Conant told
him that they had built their company on what they
learned from that book. Bob subsequently built his
training company into an international success on
that book, too.

"What Do You Trade Your Day For?"
"Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal."

I love this quote from Nightingale because there is so
much you can learn from it. First, success is not a
destination, it's a process. You don't arrive at success,
you are progressively realizing it.
That means that success is determined by how you
spend your day, not by what you have achieved!
Nightingale says that each day we should be moving a
little bit closer to what he calls a worthy ideal, and if we
have one and if we are progressivley realizing it, we are
successful!
Well, then, what is this "worthy ideal" thingy?
Nightingale defined it as "something you would willingly
trade your life for." Wow, that sounds kinda serious!
And it is.
Many people will say, "Gee, I don't know of anything
quite that grand and significant that I would trade my
life for it."
Well, I've got news for you. You're already trading your
life for something. What did you trade yesterday for?
What did you trade last week for. or last month, or
last year? Was it worthy, or was it pointless?
See, we are all trading our lives for something. We
have the choice to make it worthy or not. I believe
that Nightingale's ideal is the same thing that I call
purpose. We can all find a purpose for our lives that
transcends the routine and gives our life meaning.
When we seek to act every day out of the power of
our purpose, we are trading our life for a worthy
ideal.
How do we find our purpose? The clues are in the
things we love to do. The path of purpose is the path
of joy. Most people have taken a wrong turn somewhere
and missed it. As NIghtingale also said, "people are
tiptoeing through life, hoping to make it safely to death."
Find a way to realize a worthy ideal in your life this
week. It's the only life you've got, at least in this body,
so why waste it? Trade your life purposefully.
All successful people have a strong sense of purpose.
That's one of the requirements!
