Trade Caffeine for Money?
What's keeping you from getting what you want?
Would it be worth the cost of your daily name-brand
coffee to find out and fix it? Or do you prefer to remain
caffeine-buzzed and mildly disappointed?
I'm started another "Science of Getting Rich" teleseminar series on May 24th.
For 4 months you can
be empowered and coached to achieve at a level
you've only dreamed of, and all for only the cost of a large
coffee a day! Jeeze, is this a no-brainer, or what?

"How To Create Real Motivation"
© Wes Hopper
"Your part is to focus and visualize your desire. The desire
you feel is the Universe seeking to express through you, so
don't hesitate to ask in a big way." - - Wallace Wattles
There's more misunderstanding and bogus smoke and
mirrors about motivation than just about anything else in
training. That's why it doesn't stick. When the motivational
speaker leaves town, so does the motivation. So here's what
you really need to know about it.
Motivation is easy. All you've got to do is want something
really deeply, and you'll be motivated to do whatever it
takes to get it. I remember when I was a kid about 7 or 8
years old, I wanted to learn to ride a bicycle. All my friends
had bikes, and I felt left out.
There was just one problem - I had a metal brace on my
right leg that went from my hip to my shoe and I couldn't
pedal with that leg. I wore that brace for about 4 years and,
boy, did I get tired of hearing about all the things I couldn't
do! So I did them anyway, when I could get away with it.
Anyway, I needed a bike without a clutch on the pedals
so I could pedal with one leg. I didn't know then about the
power of a burning desire and a committed decision, but
I had them and I wanted that bike!
So one showed up. I don't remember how or with who, but
somebody had one with direct drive so the pedals kept
going around if the bike was moving and that was all I
needed. I was motivated! I grabbed that bike and off I
went. With my right leg out at a crazy angle and my
left leg pedaling like mad I went wobbling down the
street. It wasn't very pretty, and the crashes were scary,
but in an hour I could ride. That's motivation!
So how do we create that for us in our businesses? If we
have employees or a sales force, how do we help them get
and stay motivated? Well, the answer is in the bicycle
story.
Motivation to do anything come from connecting what you're
doing with something that you really, really want. The
things that people really, really want come from inside them
and can't be given to them from someone else. They'll
always be based on a POSITIVE desire and not on fear or
"shoulds." People can't be motivated by pushing, they
have to be pulled by their own desire.
If you have trouble creating meaningful goals for your job,
you lack desire. That means the job is not connected
with anything but a paycheck for you. You're living
someone else's dream.
The secret to motivation on the job is to connect the job
with something that you really want, some higher purpose,
something bigger than the job. That's why the last couple
of issues of this newsletter have been about purpose. Find
your life's purpose, build a vision around it, and then use
the job as an avenue to bring it to life.
This is bad news for mediocre supervisors and sales
managers, because it means that none of their cheesy
motivation techniques work. What works is becoming an
effective coach for your workers, learning enough about
them to understand what is important to them, and then
showing them how to uncover their purpose and tie that
to the job. To do this, you might even have to do it for
yourself first! Now, there's a radical idea.
The payoff, for yourself and for your business, is going
to be much greater productivity, lower turnover, less
internal conflicts and lots of enthusiam. What turnover
you will have will be good, because some people will
discover that they're in the wrong job, and leave. That's
good for them and good for you. They're making room
for someone who will love it.
