"Broke, Sick and Miserable"
© Wes Hopper
"Whatever rewards you seek, you must first earn
in the form of service to others."
- - Bob Proctor
I want to tell you a story about the difference just
one gift can make in someone's life. Since many of
you are unfamiliar with my mentor, Bob Proctor, this
will give you some idea of the amazing transformation
he has gone through in his life, and how he did it. There's
some great personal and business
lessons in this story, too.
Bob grew up in a little town in Ontario, Canada and
didn't have a lot of good role models for success. Just
the opposite, actually. He and the school system parted
ways shortly after he entered high school, by "mutual
consent", he says, and that ended his formal schooling.
He and some friends later joined the Navy, just for
something to do, and after 4 miserable years he got
out and found his way eventually to a job as a fireman
for the city of Toronto. Still miserable and unhappy, he
was totally clueless about his life, and found himself
going deep into debt. That was where he was when
he met Ray Stanford.
Stanford saw something in Bob that even Bob didn't, and
began to coach him on taking responsibility for his life.
The big change happened when he gave Bob a book,
Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich" and it turned Bob's
life around.
You've heard the saying, "when the student is ready,
the teacher appears" and Bob was ready. Heck, he
was "broke, sick and miserable" so he was really ready.
He took just one idea from the book - to pick a specific
money goal, write it on a card, carry it around and read it
over and over again. He picked $25,000, which was more
than 6 times his annual salary. He says, "It was such a
big number to me that I gave myself 10 years to get it." The
guys in the firehouse made fun of him when they saw it.
"Hey, Proctor's gonna be rich!" But they didn't laugh long.
Bob says, "As soon as I started focusing on that money
goal, I started to see opportunities for making money that
I'd never noticed before." He started an office cleaning
business, and by applying some of those innovative ideas,
in the first year made over $150,000. In a few years it
was over $1million.
He quit the fire department, the desirable, steady, stable
lifetime employment job. He says he was the first guy
in over 30 years to quit that job. They told him he was
nuts. He wasn't nuts, he was motivated, but sometimes
that looks like the same thing.
Bob didn't stop learning with that first book. He became
a lifetime learner, taking seminars, reading books and
studying with everyone who he thought might know
something. He discovered Earl Nighingale, and became the
Canadian distributor for Nighingale-Conant materials.
Then he set a goal to work with Earl, and ended up as
Vice President of Sales for Nightingale-Conant, with his
office right across the hall from Nightingale's.
Bob's constant studies have made him an expert in not
only sales, but the workings of the mind and beliefs to
control every aspect of our life. He learned how to change
results by changing what was happening in his mind, and
he learned how to teach that to others. For more on
Bob's mind teachings, see the second article below.
Out of that desire to teach others came the powerful
seminars that he is known for. He's trained the
staffs of Metropolitan Life, Malaysian Airlines, ReMax
real estate and many, many more, raising their sales
by many millions of dollars. Now, at near 70 years of
age, he presides over an international set of businesses
that touch the lives of thousands of people. He's made up
for leaving school early by becoming one of the best
educated men I know.
He hasn't quit learning, though. I first met him at a
conference in 2002 at which he was one of the speakers.
I noticed that he was in the back of the room each day
listening intently to the other speakers. He told me he
picked up one really good new idea from Wayne Dyer
that weekend, and that's what he was looking for.
Not bad for a rebellious, sick, miserable and broke high
school dropout, eh? And it all started with just one book.
Which he still has, by the way. He carries it everywhere
and reads it every year.
What can we learn from this? The power of a helping hand,
the power of self study, the power of goals, the power of
belief. The fact that anything we want is possible for us if
we are willing to do what it takes. The fact that there are
good ideas all around us if we only become aware of them.
So who do you know that might benefit from the gift of
inspiration this holiday season? And how are you doing
on your own self improvement? Would you like to know
what Bob Proctor knows?
Vic Conant of the Nighingale-Conant company says this
of Bob: "He can and does explain how to turn any idea
you can think of into physical results." That would be
pretty good to know.
Well, you can know what Bob knows because
he's put it all on tape for you. Give yourself the gift of
empowerment and make 2006 the year when you
can "quit the fire department" too.
Although the information is priceless, the prices in our
sale are rock bottom low! So take action!

Mind Matters - The Stickperson
One of the key issues that Bob Proctor struggled with in
his studies was trying to understand the mind and how it
worked. He had lots of information, but no coherent picture
to work with. After all, the mind is hard to visualize.
One day, sitting in a coffee shop with one of his mentors,
Canadian trainer Leland Val VanDeWall, he watched as
Val traced a simple drawing of a couple of circles and
some connecting lines on a napkin. This diagram, the
stickperson, was created by Dr Thruman Fleet around
1934 to help explain the mind-body connection. It
brought immediate clarity to Bob. Just having a picture
helped all that information fall into place.
Now when you do any of Bob's programs, you'll go
through a section on the stickperson. You'll see the
conscious mind/subconscious mind connection, the
relationship to the body, and the process by which
beliefs move the body into action. It brought clarity
to me, and it will to you.
The stickperson is one reason why psychiatrist John
Mike said "I have learned more through Bob Proctor and
his teachings about the unconscious or subconscious
mind than in all my years of training in medical school."
You know that I talk a lot about the mind in this newsletter.
Whenever I am writing about the mind, I have this picture
of the stickperson that I'm mentally referring to. It helps
make the invisible visible.
Buy any of the programs that we have on sale (except the
Success Series, which are just audio) and you will get a
stick person module as part of the training. A lot of things
you have read or heard about the mind will finally make
sense!
